LAHORE: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Muhammad Khalid Khursheed says that projects including Diamer Basha Dam would go a long way in transforming the socio-economic landscape of the country in general and Gilgit-Baltistan in particular.
He said this here on Monday while holding a meeting with Wapda Chairman retired Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain and other officials.
The authorities briefed him about water and hydropower projects being implemented by Wapda in GB during the meeting. These projects include Diamer Basha Dam, Harpo, Tangir, Thak, Shayok Dam, Basho, Attabad Lake, Skardu Dam, Tungus and Yulbo hydropower schemes.
The matters relating to the resettlement action plan, land acquisition and schemes under Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) for Diamer Basha project were also discussed during the meeting. The progress on other projects also came under discussion.

During the conversation, the parties discussed the priorities and work plans of the Secretariat in 2021. They also exchanged views on preparations for the 30th anniversary of the CICA in 2022. India and Bangladesh border talks ended in various important decisions, including construction of single row fence in priority patches
Several decisions including identification of vulnerable areas and conduct of joint night patrols to prevent crime and nab criminals were taken at the five-day 51st Director General (DG) level border coordination conference between Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held at Guwahati.
The conference, which began on December 22, also decided on the construction of single row fence in priority patches.
The conference was held in the backdrop of 50th year of creation of Bangladesh.

Indian and Bangladesh border guarding forces will jointly engage in streamlining mechanism in the upcoming year to curb trans-border crimes a major concern of the two neighbouring countries that affects security, as well as internal system due to the illegal activities.
India s Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) set the target after the 51st Director General level border coordination conference between them yielded positive results .
Besides streamlining mechanisms to jointly curb trans-border crimes, both forces reiterated their commitment to work jointly for ensuring peace and tranquility along borders.
