Loving Loud in 2020

This article shares what my home church – Church of Christ Fellowship, Clayton has been up to in loving our local community with no strings attached. It is a close adaptation of what I wrote and submitted for the church Annual Report, and it complements much of what has already been shared from the pulpit throughout our December / Love Loud message series. Senior Pastor Chee-Seng Fah provided a good summary during his Christmas Day message. 2020 was naturally challenged by COVID-19 and its related lockdowns, particularly for those of us in Melbourne. However, it didn’t stopped us from continuing to follow in obedience to representing Jesus to our local community. In this way, God demonstrated that when we make ourselves available to Him, He continues to work and build His church.

The Black Church Must Take the Lead

February 10, 2021 Christians in both political parties will tell you, if pressed, that the Bible holds the answers for life’s problems. But if that’s true, we have to wonder why we as Christians have failed to adhere to the Scripture’s command to “hate evil, love good; establish justice in the gate” (Amos 5:15 NKJV). There has never been a time when this nation has been so divided. There is war in the streets, war in our hearts, and war in the halls of Congress, where two political parties are doing their best to destroy one another. How in the world have we come to such a pass?

Warnock And Abrams Highlight Illustrious Path For HBCU Grads

With the recent victory of Rev. Raphael Warnock and Stacey Abrams’ work in facilitating it, the community of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Atlanta has a lot to be proud of.  Alumni of Morehouse College and Spelman College, respectively, Warnock and Abrams’ legacies inspire those who have walked the same hallways they once did.  “At the highest level in any profession, you can find HBCU graduates not just doing well, but thriving and setting the trend, framing the conversation,” said Anré Washington, a Morehouse graduate of 2013.  Washington is a partner for the policy consulting firm Homegrown Strategy Group. He met Warnock as a student, and they worked together on protests and organizing. Since then, Washington has collaborated with him while working on advocacy, policy and voting rights.
