• MUD SLUG: Willow Slough in Newton County will host a Mud Slug event on May 15, with participants paddling in a kayak for 1 mile, bicycling for another 20 miles and taking a 10-mile trail run. MINNEOTA Services for Barbara “Barb” Fodness, 81, of Minneota, will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. A walk through visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 -11 a.m. all at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will follow the service at Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Masks are required at all indoor events and social distancing guidelines will be followed. A recording of the service will be available at www.horvathfuneralservice.com.
She died on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall.

As a boy, I had a fond love of reading because books stirred my imagination. That love of reading led me to ponder how much an author can contribute to society, and a desire to become a writer myself someday, perhaps even write a wonderful novel and become a well sought out author.
That dream, however, kind of died in me with the realization that it’s not that easy to break into the writing business.
