Tina Hoeing for the Daily News GREENSBURG – Greensburg Mayor Josh Marsh presented a proclamation to the Greensburg Breakfast Optimist Club recently honoring the first Thursday of February as Optimist Day in the City of Greensburg. President of the Greensburg Breakfast Optimist Club Mike Novak received the framed and stamped document that complimented the membership as “volunteers working with young people who are our joy of today and are our hope for tomorrow (and are) exuberant representatives of the potential to be reached and dreams come true.”

Optimism is strong in New Ulm! | News, Sports, Jobs

To the editor: In recognition of Optimist Day, the first Thursday in February, the New Ulm Optimist Club would like to remind our community that optimism is alive and well in New Ulm! The current pandemic has brought so many challenges to all areas of our lives. It has changed how our Optimist Club offers opportunities, how we fund youth projects, and even how we interact with each other. But these changes can be channeled into opportunities that positively impact the youth in our community – our main focus. The first sentence in the Optimist Creed says that we will, “Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.” Despite closures, restrictions, and even revenue loss, the New Ulm Optimist Club continues to fund various youth centered efforts, such as scholarship for seniors at all three high schools, oratorical and essay contests, winter clothing drives, and STEM initiatives at the local schools. East Ridge Finalizes Plan To Have 2 Large Liquor/Wine Stores; Developers To Be Chosen By Lottery Friday, January 29, 2021 - by Gail Perry The city of East Ridge on Thursday night passed the final version of an ordinance that established the rules and regulations for retail package liquor stores. Some amendments were made to the ordinance that passed on first reading on Jan. 14.   The city will be divided into two zones. District A is commercial property between Belvoir Avenue and the Bachman Tunnels. District B is property with road frontage on Ringgold Road between Moore and Spring Creek Roads. One store will be allowed in each of the two districts.
