SCREENGRAB ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had returned foreign loans worth Rs35,000 billion in the last two-and-a-half years while the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government paid back Rs20,000 billion loans in its five year tenure. He noted that the fate of the country would have changed if the loan was not due towards his government and had been used on education, health and infrastructure.

He was hopeful that the measures being introduced would bring about prosperity in the country. “We want to create more and more wealth in the country to retire heavy foreign loans, some of which are causing even more debts,” the prime minister said while laying the foundation stone of 4,000 low-cost apartments being built under the government’s ambitious Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) at Farash Town near Islamabad.
