Various projects started under Naya Pakistan Housing Program: Senate informed

The Senate was informed on Thursday that various projects have been started under Naya Pakistan Housing Program (NPHP) to realize the promise made by Prime Minister Imran Khan for construction of five million houses.
Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan told the House during question hour on Thursday that forty-five thousand low cost housing units are under construction all over the country including in Lahore, Nowshera, Islamabad and Peshawar.
The Adviser said that the private sectors have submitted one hundred and eighty proposals to Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority for construction of more than three million housing units. Out of these forty five projects comprising seventy thousand housing units have been shortlisted. Work on these projects would start very soon.
Tarin expresses resolve to take GDP growth rate to 6-7pc in 2 years

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has expressed the resolve to take the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate to 6-7 percent in a couple of years to make the country a regionally competitive economy.
The finance minister said this while chairing the second meeting of the Economic Advisor Council (EAC) on Tuesday.
He welcomed the participants and highlighted the objective of the formation of EAC, which is the promotion of evidence-based policy formation and reforms with the effective consultation and feedback from all important stakeholders. He said that the ultimate goal of these consultative meetings is to spur growth and take it to around 6-7 percent in two years to make Pakistan a regionally competitive economy.

LAHORE: Akhuwat Foundation Founder and Executive Director Dr Amjad Saqib has said that the Akhuwat Foundation has been running the most successful and largest Qarz-e-Hasna scheme with a 99.9 percent recovery rate of its interest-free Islamic microfinance programme.
Addressing at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), he said that Akhuwat – since its inception in 2001 – had disbursed a sum of Rs150 billion as interest-free loans to 4.4 million people of the deprived communities. He said that the interest-free loan programme had enabled hundreds of thousands of people to secure basic necessities of life enabling them to live with dignity and honour.
