UK thrashers Evile have returned with a revamped lineup and its first new album since 2013. Formed in 2004 in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England with the Drake brothers Matt (vocals/guitar) and Ol (guitar), Ben Carter (drums), and Mike Alexander (bass), the band has endured several significant member changes. After riding a high from its first two stellar full-length albums,
Enter the Grave (2007) and
Infected Nations (2009), tragedy struck the band when Mike was stricken with a fatal illness while on tour supporting Swedish death metal horde Amon Amarth and passed away in 2009. After recruiting current bassist Joel Graham, the band carried on and released a further two full-length albums.

An odd look will spread over the features of any heavy music fan the moment you mention the name Gojira. Their eyes will glaze over as they enter a trancelike state, foaming at the mouth and shaking as they mutter about how they saw them blow Slayer off the stage in ‘13, or fold Ghost like laundry back on the ‘Infestissumam’ tour, or bludgeon Mastodon to death at Bloodstock 2016.
There is a unanimous agreement across the brutalisphere that France’s premier metal band effectively ran the table on the 2010s, leapfrogging their rivals to become the most exciting, influential and groundbreaking act in heavy metal. Though they had been cult favourites since their inception as a death metal band at the turn of the millennium, it was only on their most recent two records (2012’s

A offering back to Metal, for all the uncompromising music and the people who help keep it alive In the ranks of Extreme Metal, there some who go the extra mile. Some become obsessed with total allegiance, and others find better exploits for there energies. Out of a chance encounter with an unfamiliar face donning an Emperor shirt, I met Pete Bejarano, the kind of person who brings people deeper into metal’s unexplored nether regions. Besides his involvement with Thrones Of Scorn, a Death Metal turn Black Metal band, he also puts on an Extreme Metal show at UCSD’s student run radio station KSDT. As some of the explorations in the dark musical arts pour out over the Old Student Center, people tend to run for cover. Yet, for my self, as newly emerging metal head, Pete proves to be an endless source of scene history and band knowledge.
