Las Vegas-based Sugar Factory American Brasserie, known for couture lollipops, celebrity sightings and $43 tropical cocktails, intends to take over the closed Brio Tuscan Grille site in The Markets at Town Center. The company said April 14 it will open at the 4910 Big Island Drive restaurant. The projected opening is in January. It said it has the capacity for 312 seats, comprising 175 inside, 22 at the bar and 115 on the patio, in the property’s total 10,800 square feet of space. Special features include an Instagram feature cafe in the front; indoor-outdoor dining and a bar with operable doors to a large outdoor patio with a trellis and lighting; and a large video wall. Hartford clinics suspend vaccinations with J&J vaccine after federal warning

Hartford-area clinics halted vaccinations with the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine early Tuesday after a warning from the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that the medication was linked to blood clots in six U.S. patients.  The state Department of Public Health (DPH) announced early Tuesday that it was recommending that all Connecticut providers pause administering the J&J COVID-19 vaccine while the FDA and CDC complete their review. About 100,000 Connecticut residents have received the J&J vaccine with no reported serious adverse events, according to the DPH. Nationwide, 6.8 million people have received the J&J vaccine, with six women aged between 18 and 48 developing a rare and severe type of blood clot called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis within two weeks of receiving a J&J shot.

Operated by the Coastal Gourmet Group, which owns four Mystic Markets in Connecticut, the Foxwoods location will offer sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts, coffee and gourmet meals, all made in house with locally sourced ingredients. Dishes will include Spicy Lo Mein Noodles, Kale, Mango and Quinoa Salad, Grilled Salmon Ratatouille, Chicken Cordon Bleu and Smoked Brisket.
