On January 26, India celebrated its 72nd Republic Day, commemorating its constitution coming into effect on January 26, 1950. The constitution’s preamble declares India a “sovereign socialist secular democratic republic” (“socialist” and “secular” were added to the original in 1976) and grants all its citizens justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. However, in many instances these protections continue to be denied to women, poor, Muslims, Dalits, and other marginalized groups.
On one end, the Indian constitution grants all its citizens equality of status and of opportunity. On the other end, farmers in India have been protesting for the past two months around Delhi, battling cold, COVID-19, and police crackdowns, against the government’s new farm laws that they believe will leave them at the mercy of large corporations and agri-businesses. As thousands of Indian farmers protested against the agricultural reform bills of the government, violence erupted, as farmers rode tractors part of police barriers, and clashed with officers around the capital city of India, New Delhi on Tuesday.

According to CNN, Indian farmer s protest did not start right away as their union had devised a plan for a peaceful march into the capital on Republic Day, a day wherein the people of India commemorates the signing of the Indian constitution.
The government of India had approved the plan for the farmers, who have been protesting already for months, allowing them to enter the city at noon.

MUMBAI (Dunya News) – Maharashtra Karni Sena chief Ajay Sengar has offered Rs 1 crore reward for slitting the tongues of those who insult Hindu gods and goddesses in Amazon’s web series ‘Tandav’.
Sengar said, “Even though ‘Tandav’ makers have apologised to everyone but this is not enough and it will not be accepted.”
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who is also working in Tandav, has already been given additional security.
Earlier, the cast and crew of a popular streaming series starring Bollywood megastar Saif Ali Khan had agreed to implement changes to the show after ruling party politicians accused it of insulting Hindu gods.
