Batra eyes second term as world hockey body chief

New Delhi, May 22 (IANS): Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief Narinder Batra, who is aiming for a second term as president of International Hockey Federation (FIH), faces Marc Coudron of Belgium for the top post in FIH presidential election due to take place on Saturday evening.
Batra, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), became chief of FIH in 2016.
The Indian sports administrator, in the build up to FIH election, unveiled 11 key steps he will take to lift global hockey to next level.
Batra s first term was extended after FIH delayed the Congress to 2021 due to pandemic.
Batra re-elected as FIH President for a second term
NEW DELHI: Incumbent Narinder Batra of India was on Saturday re-elected as the International Hockey Federation (FIH) President for a second term during the virtual 47th Congress of the sport’s global governing body.
Batra, who is also the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, narrowly defeated his rival Marc Coudron, chief of Belgium Hockey Federation, by a margin of two votes.
Batra secured 63 votes as against his rival’s 61 to emerge as the winner in the online voting process, in which 124 member associations participated.

New Delhi, May 22 : India s Narinder Batra was re-elected as president of International Hockey Federation (FIH) in an election held virtually on Saturday. Batra secured 63 votes out of 124 to edge past Belgium s Marc Coudron, who got 61.
In his opening address to FIH Congress, also held virtually, Batra said his priority would be to ensure hockey becomes more visible globally. My priority is to grow the sport globally, and to do that we need to constantly evolve with new formats and events. To create a holistic ecosystem which is sustainable to increase visibility and reach, said Batra, who is also president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
