TORIES are attempting to claw back up to 90 per cent of a “thank you” bonus to NHS workers in Scotland who claim benefits.
Workers claiming benefits could get less than £50 of a £500 bonus because of tax, new research from the House of Commons Library shows.
It would affect low-paid workers such as care home workers, NHS porters, healthcare support workers, nurses and paramedics who claim welfare such as tax credits and housing benefit.
The SNP has called on the Westminster government to U-turn on the “cruel and unacceptable” cut.
In December, the British government admitted it planned to deduct benefit payments from those workers in receipt of the bonus.
