Two big Northeast Ohio institutions are teaming up to find someone who could be the next big thing.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Akron-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (Nasdaq: GT) on Wednesday, April 21, announced the launch of From Garage to Glory, which they call a nationwide talent search that will give aspiring musicians or bands a chance to perform live on stage at the Rock Hall s Induction Fest on Oct. 28, during the institution s induction week in October. The winner also will receive $10,000.
Now through May 16, the Rock Hall and Goodyear said in a news release, amateur solo artists and bands can enter the contest by visiting FromGarageToGlory.com and submitting an original song and telling the story behind its inspiration. The Rock Hall and a panel of judges will choose three finalists, and the public will vote from June 21 through July 16 for its favor

Goodyear Ventures said it will invest in TuSimple, which is focused on developing autonomous driving for the logistics industry.
For Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the path to future mobility ventures off the paved roadways, onto the sidewalks and straight through the clouds.
Through a series of investments and partnerships, the Akron-based tiremaker is learning to harness the power of technology to develop solutions that drive mobility further.
To do that, Goodyear needs data lots of data and plenty of feedback. It also needs some relatively efficient ways to collect and analyze those data points and ideas. By pairing the right insights with the right R&D, Goodyear says it can develop solutions that provide its customers consumers and fleet operators alike with the ability to move efficiently within new mobility landscapes.

In the past two decades, economic activity connected to research at Sandia National Laboratories has led to billions of dollars of spending and thousands of high-paying jobs, according to an economic impact study.
The study looked into the spending, jobs and tax revenue throughout the country that can be traced to cooperative research and development agreements and patent licensing agreements that Sandia entered into with outside companies.
Whenever a scientist at Sandia makes a discovery that leads to a patented invention, Sandia can license the rights of that government-owned patent to, typically, for-profit companies that can make, use or sell the product.
