Celebrate Nurses: Self-care allows Weinman to provide best care

Going from nearly homeless to nursing instructor, Mo Weinman has accomplished much in her life. Until a few weeks ago, Weinman was working as a full-time critical care nurse at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis and part-time as a second-year clinical nursing instructor at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany. She is cross-trained to work in the intensive care unit. She has scaled back a few hours at the hospital to complete her masterâs degree in nursing education. At home, she is raising four children, ages 5 and 18 and twins who are 20, with her husband. Weinman is from Southern California, where she and her ex-husband struggled with homelessness. She said they just couldnât seem to find a place to settle. Her cousin in Albany invited her to visit. The couple decided to stay, but the marriage dissolved.Â

Oregon Health Authority reported 993 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to 178,110. The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 283, which is 11 more than Wednesday. There are 69 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, which is four more than Wednesday.
