Less than a dozen new COVID-19 deaths in Georgia, South Carolina

In a sign the toll of the pandemic is easing, Georgia and South Carolina combined had fewer than a dozen new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday, including none in the Augusta-Aiken area. Georgia had 10 new deaths for a toll of 15,928 with 1,099 new cases to reach 837,443, the Department of Public Health reported. Richmond County saw 11 new cases for 18,960 total and was the only area county with an increase of 10 or more. All other counties saw five or fewer new cases: five in Columbia for 10,670, three in Burke for 1,704, two in McDuffie for 1,599, two in Screven for 793, two in Jenkins for 711, and one in Taliaferro for 99. All other counties were unchanged: Jefferson at 1,547, Wilkes at 659, Lincoln at 494, Warren at 365 and Glascock at 140.
