In September 2019, Dustin Lee Hicks pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide-gross negligence following a crash that killed a 34-year-old woman. When he was sentenced two months later, the charge changed and Hicks was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
On Monday, the Minnesota Court of Appeals reversed Hicks conviction and sentencing and sent it back to the lower after ruling that Hicks conviction was invalid as his attorney, not him, that agreed to the amended charge.
