As was expected, the Biden administration formally killed a Trump-era rule on the definition of independent contractors under the Fair Labor Standards Act. On March 11, the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) of the Department of Labor announced it was withdrawing the rule, which was initially passed in the last few months of the Trump administration. While the new administration offered no immediate replacement for the rule, legislation passed in the U.S. House on March 9 offered a glimpse as to where the Democrats are heading.

Onfleet to partner with customers on carbon emissions offset program

Onfleet is offering its customers the chance to purchase carbon offsets through a program announced on Earth Day as it seeks to offset more than 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by the end of 2022. The program, Onfleet Offset, is being run with help from carbon credit management company Pachama and will officially start on May 1.

E-commerce’s growth is leading to more vehicles on roadways. The World Economic Forum predicts that 36% more delivery vehicles will be on city streets by 2030, and without intervention, urban last-mile delivery emissions and traffic congestion will increase 30% in the top 100 cities globally.
Retailers that are trying to appeal to a growing number of eco-friendly shoppers have few options to counteract this trend. Buying carbon offsets is one option, but another is working with providers to create greener solutions and more
