Senate urges FG to rehabilitate Ikorodu-Shagamu, Ikorodu-Itoikin-Epe roads

By Naomi Sharang Abuja, April 28, 2021 The Senate on Wednesday directed its Committee on Works to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to include further funding for the rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Shagamu road in the 2022 Appropriation Bill. The upper chamber also directed the Committee and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to provide appropriate funding for the reconstruction of the Ikorodu-Itoikin-Epe road in the 2022 Appropriation bill. The resolutions of the Senate followed a motion sponsored by Sen. Tokunbo Abiru (APC-Lagos) during plenary. The motion is titled: “Urgent need for the rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Shagamu and Ikorodu-Itoikin-Epe road to further bridge the infrastructure gap and enhance economic growth in Nigeria.”

Insecurity: Senate seeks establishment of permanent joint police-Army Command base in Niger

By Naomi Sharang Abuja, April 27, 2021 The Senate on Tuesday sought the establishment of a permanent military and police command base in the area adjoining Shiroro and Rafi Local Government areas of Niger state, to tackle escalating insecurity in the state. The resolution was sequel to a Point of Order raised by Sen. Sani Musa (APC-Niger) at plenary. The upper chamber also urged the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector-General of Police to redesign the mode of operations of the military in the affected areas, so as to curtail escalating insecurity. The motion was titled “The activities of bandits and Boko Haram terrorists in Shiroro, Munya and Rafi Local Government Areas of Niger State: And the need to bring an end to the menace.”

Ortom s attack: Sen Moro wants police to step up investigation

By Naomi Sharang Abuja, April 5, 2021 Sen. Abba Moro, the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Army, has pleaded with the Nigeria Police to step up investigation on attack of Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue. Moro (PDP-Benue) made the plea in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday. Ortom was recently attacked in his farm at the outskirts of Makurdi, the state capital. The Inspector-General of Police (I-G) Mohammed Adamu, had ordered full-scale investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Moro speaking on the investigation said that he was hopeful that the I-G would come up with a report that would fish out the perpetrators of the act.
