Lake Storey expansion study draws polarized responses at Galesburg City Council meeting
GALESBURG The city council heard more public outcry Tuesday night regarding the proposed second phase of the Lake Storey expansion study. A vote on the study may come as soon as the next council meeting.
This study by Edgewater Resources would follow up on a smaller study from last year that would explore and decide whether an expanded Lake Storey would be beneficial and feasible.
While the initial 2020 study ended with the conclusion that expanding the lake would likely be feasible, it also said that more study would be required. The suggested second phase would involve community engagement as well as investigate other factors such as permits. The public reaction at Tuesday’s meeting was polarized, with many residents of the area that would be impacted by the area opposed to the second phase study.
