Indianapolis Symphonic Choir s annual gala goes virtual

Feb 20, 2021 / 09:48 AM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Many events have gone virtual because of the pandemic and the 2021 Indianapolis Symphonic Choir’s annual gala is no expection. Tuesday is the choir’s first ever virtual “Gala Bel Canto: We’ll Meet Again.” Liam Bonner, executive director of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir was on Daybreak Saturday. The event, which will be livestreamed from 7-8 p.m., will feature a silent auction with mobile bidding and two performances from choir. Proceeds from the gala will go to benefit music education and community engagement programs. To register for the gala or to make a donation, click here.

Peebles war veteran John McOwan turns 100 years old

Photo courtesy of Neil MacIntyre AS a young man, John McOwan would run through the crowds during Beltane Saturdays and make his way up the steep winding tower of the Old Parish Church to ensure the bells didn’t go off during the crowing of the Beltane Queen.  Last Saturday, however, there was hardly a soul on the street, but an elderly man stood gallant at the bottom of the church steps, several medals adorning his jacket and wearing a REME beret.
