Read It and Reap: Lancaster resident launches book club focusing on Black writers

The mostly white residents of Lancaster are exploring literatures from the Black community, thanks to the idea of a resident who launched a book club for them. After several months meeting online, they look forward to a time when they can meet in person. The book club is the brain child of Sedruola “Sedie” Maruska.
“I know that Black authors are often overlooked but have a lot to share about the Black experience, whether it’s fiction or nonfiction,” she said. “I also wanted to read more Black literature and have a place to discuss it. The timing seemed right.”

On 1 August 1944, two SS officers drove a pair of trucks into the heart of Nazi-occupied Paris, and headed straight for the Louvre. These men were on a top-secret mission – one assigned to them by Heinrich Himmler, Reichsführer of the SS and one of the most powerful men in the Third Reich.

Himmler had tasked the two men with descending into the bowels of the world-famous art museum, seizing the Bayeux Tapestry and spiriting it away to a “safe place” far from the grasp of the Allies’ rapidly advancing armies.
Life of Indian princess who fought Nazis made for TV

The story of the daughter of an Indian Sufi mystic, who was killed while working as a British secret agent fighting with the French resistance in World War II, is to be told in a TV drama series.
Noor Inayat Khan, who was captured by the Gestapo and executed in the Dachau concentration camp, would be portrayed by Freida Pinto, star of the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.
The series, Spy Princess, is described as an emotional thriller.
It is to be directed by Anand Tucker and produced by Andy Paterson, known for the films Girl With a Pearl Earring and Hilary and Jackie.
