A new study has revealed that Chelmsford is one of the the most accessible places for parking for blue badge holders, coming in 16th, one rank above Colchester. The study by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts found that 83% of the city’s car parks offered accessible parking for the 1,428 resident Blue Badge holders registered in Chelmsford. The study analysed Parkopedia data for 56 car parks across the UK to calculate the percentage of accessible car parks in each location. Norwich one of the worst places in UK for disabled parking

A survey found only a third of Norwich car parks offered disabled accessible spaces. - Credit: Submitted A new study claims Norwich is one of the worst places in the UK for accessible disabled parking. The study by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts (NWC) placed the city fifteenth among the top 20 worst for failing to offer substantial parking options for disabled motorists. Only 32pc of the car parks offered accessible spaces, despite there being over 1,727 blue badge holders registered in the city. Analysts worked out the percentage based on Parkopedia data of car parks in 56 cities that offered disabled parking and the percentage that didn t. 

Reading ranked as best place for blue badge parking

Blue badge 91 per cent of the town s car parks offered accessible parking for the 1,804 resident Blue Badge holders registered there. Worcester topped the list with a huge 96 per cent of the city’s car parks offering accessible spaces for blue badge holders. Surrey town, Epsom, came in second (95 per cent) and South London s Croydon came third (94 per cent) with their car parks offering the most disabled spots. Keith Hawes, Director at Nationwide Vehicle Contracts, said: As those with hidden disabilities such as Autism, MS and mental health issues are now allowed to apply for a blue badge it is vital that towns and cities ensure there is more accessible parking available.
