Licensees faced uncertain future until Holgate came along

Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie says Australia Post licensees in country towns had an uncertain financial future until Christine Holgate came along. Ms Holgate who was dismissed as CEO of Australia Post in 2020 will give her account on Tuesday in the Senate. “2,500 licensees, small business owners, the majority of which are in country towns around Australia had a very un-financially viable future until Christine Holgate came along and negotiate the Bank@Post deal,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News. “Which not only delivered for the taxpayer, to the tune of about $70 million, but also put these businesses on a sustainable footing going forward.”

Canberra allegations have had flow on effects

Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie says the allegations of rape surrounding federal politics over the last couple of weeks have had “flow on effects” to everyone who works in Parliament. Her comments come after Finance Minister Simon Birmingham announced the establishment of a review into the parliamentary workplace – to be led by Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins. “Kate is eminently qualified to perform that role,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “I do want to let your viewers know that this isn’t a commonplace occurrence in our workplace. “We all – irrespective of what side of politics you work on – want people to be able to come to work and feel safe in this environment.”

Ms McKenzie said the Nationals are going to put forth amendments to the Clean Energy and Finance Corporations Bill set to be in the Senate on Wednesday asking for the backing of high energy, low emissions coalfired power generation projects and removals on nuclear technologies.

McCormack is absolutely right to say all lives matter

Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie says acting Prime Minister Michael McCormack is “absolutely right” to say all lives matter. It comes as Mr McCormack faces a tide of criticism after comparing riots at the US Capitol with Black Lives Matter demonstrations. He has also been further criticised for defending the importance of the lives lost in the violence of Black Lives Mater protests in the US, saying “they should know that those lives matter too; all lives matter”. “Of course all lives matter,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News host Cory Bernardi. “Michael’s absolutely right.” Ms McKenzie said the criticism he now faces goes to show “how inappropriate it is to really take political movements from other countries and try and make them fit to our society”. “The reality is, I guess, for us in Australia that we have known for a long time there are issues within our indigenous community,” she said. “State and federal governments have for a very long time sought t
