MANSFIELD - Madison Comprehensive High School had more valedictorians in its class of 2021 than most schools have in several years combined: 17 valedictorians, each with a 4.0 grade point average.
Principal Sean Conway said it was the most valedictorians in school history. It was an unbelievable class of talented kids and not just skilled academically but also athletically, he said. They were all very, very special kids, said Conway.
There were over 200 graduates in the class of 2021, he said. The graduation ceremony had been scheduled for Friday night in the football stadium but bad weather moved it to indoors on Saturday night.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf speaks to the press.
The Pennsylvania Charter Appeals Board (CAB) has become a political battleground in a larger fight between Gov. Tom Wolf and state GOP leaders over executive appointees.
At present, the board seems to have become functionally non-existent as important disputes between school districts and charter schools are in limbo.
The CAB exists as a place where charter schools can challenge decisions made by their local school boards.
At least they’re supposed to be able to challenge them.
Right now, it’s unclear who would hear the appeals.
The board’s website lists no members other than Acting Secretary of Education Noe Ortega, an automatic appointee.
Hanover Area High School will not have this yearâs graduation ceremony at PNC Field in Moosic or at the Garden Drive-In movie theater in Hunlock Twp., Hanover Area School District Superintendent Nathan Barrett said at Tuesdayâs school board meeting.
Barrett said he will announce the graduation plan at a special virtual meeting next week on the Zoom platform. Next weekâs Zoom meeting will be at 6 p.m. April 21.
Hanover Areaâs traditional graduation ceremony was nixed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The graduation event was held at the Garden Drive-In movie theater with graduates, family and friends in vehicles.
