For Nancy Miclette, the co-chair for the Relay for Life of Southeastern Connecticut, the pandemic has affected donations to the organization.
In 2020, the nonprofit raised $50,000 compared to $100,000 in 2019. But the outlook is promising for 2021, with changes allowing big events like Relay for Life to resume again.
“We’re trying to get back on track,” Miclette said.
As COVID-19 vaccinations become more available, nonprofits that had to put fundraising projects on hold last year, or change formats from in-person to remote, are trying to bring events similar to what they did in the past back into the fold.
After cancelling the Norwich Relay for Life last year, Miclette said this year’s event, which take place June 12 at Dodd Stadium, will be 12 hours instead of 24 hours. Officials are still taking COVID precautions.
