FDCA ameliorates SU5416/hypoxia-induced PASMC dysfunction

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is an incurable disease that urgently needs therapeutic approaches. Based on the therapeutic effects of fasudil and dichloroacetate (DCA) on PAH, we aimed to explore the effects and potential mechanism of a new salt, fasudil dichloroacetate (FDCA), in a SU5416 plus hypoxia (SuHx)-induced rat model of PAH. Methods: The rat model of PAH was established by a single subcutaneous injection of SU5416 (20 mg/kg) followed by hypoxia (10% O 2) exposure for 3 weeks. FDCA (15, 45, or 135 mg/kg i.g. daily) or the positive control, bosentan (100 mg/kg i.g. daily), were administered from the first day after SU5416 injection. After 3-week hypoxia, hemodynamic parameters, and histological changes of the pulmonary arterial vessels and right ventricle (RV) were assessed. Additionally, in vitro, the effects of FDCA (50 μM), compared with equimolar doses of fasudil, DCA, or fasudil+DCA, on the proliferation, migration, and contraction of human pulmona

Time to Revisit Distant Nodal Status in Breast Cancer Curability?

email article Patients with breast cancer with distant lymph node metastases (DLNM) had similar survival to that of patients with regional node involvement and significantly better survival than those with non-DLNM distant spread, an analysis of 2,000 cases showed. Women with DLNM at diagnosis had a 3-year breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) rate of 64.54% versus 63.24% for patients with ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph node metastases (ISLM) and 41.20% for those with distant metastases. Overall survival (OS) at 3 years was also similar between ISLM and DLNM, but significantly worse for patients with non-DLNM distant metastases. The results, derived from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry data, suggest that DLNM should be considered regional disease warranting aggressive treatment, reported Wenbin Zhou, MD, PhD, of Nanjing Medical University in China, and co-authors in

The proposal was made by Gao Yanming, Chairman of Hebei Ocean Shipping Company in Hebei Province and also a member of the National Committee of Chinese People s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Gao proposed that all international students should meet the required credits for admission with the exception of those funded by foreign governments, who can have lower admission scores. Chinese universities should not blindly pursue a quota of enrolled students while ignoring the qualit
