Network Norfolk : Norfolk s trail-blazing architect awarded MBE

Norfolk’s trail-blazing architect awarded MBE  Norfolk-based architect David Thompson was recently awarded an MBE by the Queen for his services to architecture and to the community. He shared something of his rich story with Eldred Willey. For David, coming to Norwich was an answer to prayer. He had done some solid years of work for BDP, a multi-discipline design practice in Tottenham Court Road, central London. But he was feeling it was time to move on. Should he go north, south, east or west? No idea. He decided to leave the car at home three days a week and pray as he walked to work from central Islington. After a while he would arrive at work realising he could not remember the walk, so focussed had he been on finding some direction in life.

Cycling trail funding available for new Norwich country park

The council is working with a number of groups including Norfolk Wildlife Trust and Norwich Family Cycling on the project. Norwich Family Cycling works with local communities and families to help them feel more confident and have space to enjoy riding a bike.  A Broadland District Council spokesman said: They [Norwich Family Cycling] have a lot of experience in working with cycling projects, including teaching adults and children to learn to ride, running children’s and family cycling activities and rides, and developing confidence to cycle on and off road.  There are also volunteers helping us with extensive experience of creating trails to ensure that any trails are properly developed in line with appropriate standards, to provide enjoyable cycling experiences for family cycling.

Norfolk Labour county councillors announced in July 2019 that they opposed the £153m road, which Norfolk County Council wants to build to connect the NDR to the A47 to the west of Norwich. But, up to now, Labour-controlled Norwich City Council has adopted a more circumspect approach - that the road had its conditional support, dependent on a package of other transport investment and mitigation measures.
