USD 373 finds $1 million in unpaid insurance claims

The Kansan It came as good news more than $1.1 million in funds headed to Newton USD 373 from insurance companies from an insurance claim filed in 2016.  That money is, of course, all earmarked, said David Decker, director of business services. This is real damage that needs to be repaired. What we are happy about is this is something that will impact nearly all of our schools.   The insurance claim had gone dormant, and the claim had gone uninvestigated. Earlier this school year Chris Schaeffer, Director of Facilities, brought the dormant claim to the attention of district administration who reopened the claim. 

4 more Victoria-area schools report COVID-19 exposures

VICTORIA Four more schools in the Victoria area are reporting COVID-19 exposures. The Greater Victoria School District says new exposures have been reported at Central Middle, Strawberry Vale Elementary and Margaret Jenkins Elementary schools in Victoria, as well as at Northridge Elementary school in Saanich. All of the exposures occurred between April 19 and 26, according to the school district. View Royal Elementary is also reporting a COVID-19 exposure on April 23. Anyone who has been exposed to COVID-19 in a Vancouver Island school will be contacted by public health officials directly. The new school exposures have not been added to Island Health’s list of known school exposures as of Wednesday morning. There are currently 16 island schools on the list with confirmed coronavirus exposures in the last 14 days.

Island Health adds 6 schools to COVID-19 exposure list, most in Saanich

Christ Church Cathedral School, Victoria Ecole Quarterway Elementary, Nanaimo At Belmont Secondary, a COVID-19 exposure occurred on April 20. Meanwhile, at Colquitz Middle School and Northridge Elementary, exposures at both schools occurred on April 19. At Cedar Hill Middle School, exposures took place on April 19 and 20, according to Island Health. Meanwhile, an exposure occurred at Christ Church Cathedral School on April 21. Lastly, exposures have been reported at Ecole Quarterway on April 20, 21 and 22, according to Island Health. Whenever a COVID-19 exposure takes place at a school, Island Health begins contact tracing and will reach out to anyone who was at a high risk of exposure.
