Hauora Hokianga is planting more native trees to develop
their Ara Rongoā Hikoi Whakaora, wellbeing and healing
pathway, which will eventually loop around the entire
hospital site. Their vision is to reframe the hospital from

Two recent Controlled Purchase Operations conducted at licensed premises throughout Northland by Northland DHB and NZ Police staff concluded in a varied result.
The operations saw underage volunteers, aged 16 and 17 years, attempt to purchase alcohol from licensed premises in the Bay of Islands and Whangarei regions.
A pleasing result from the Far North operation with NO sales from the 14 outlets tested, however ONE sale resulted from the 19 outlets tested in the Whangarei area. This result was particularly disappointing as it is the second time this premises has sold alcohol to a minor.

A sudden increase in respiratory illness in children has
led to Northland DHB changing the visitor policy for Te
Kotuku (maternity), the Special Baby Care Unit and the
Children’s Ward (Ward 2) at Whangārei Hospital.
The
illness is caused by a respiratory virus that is common at
this time of year, and is highly contagious. It mostly
impacts babies under one year of age and can cause breathing
difficulties in small children.
