In its update Wednesday, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 127 new COVID-19 cases in Cleveland County over the past week, including nearly 50 in Norman.
With 47 new cases recorded during the week of May 6-12, the City of Norman has now seen 14,303 cumulative COVID-19 cases. This weekâs new case number is the same as last Wednesdayâs, when the state also reported 47 new cases in Norman.
The latest data shows one additional city death related to COVID-19, bringing the cityâs COVID-related death toll up to 184 people. The health department now updates its local COVID-19 dashboard and its statewide risk assessment map once a week.

An attorney for a terminated Norman Regional Health System nurse accused the employer of âcancel cultureâ and enacting a âliberal agendaâ against his client, who was fired after making a Facebook comment about hanging a Black man.
Kevin Murnan worked for NRHS for 19 years, but was fired after commenting on a news article about a Black man who had been arrested for shooting a five-year-old white boy to death.
âGet a tall tree and a short piece of rope,â his comment on the Facebook post reads, according to court records. Murnan was fired in August 2020 and filed a tort claim against the hospital.

In its weekly update Wednesday, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reported no additional COVID-19 deaths over the last week in Cleveland County, where more than 400 people have died in relation to the virus since the pandemic began.
The state reported 118 new COVID-19 cases in Cleveland County over the past week, including 47 new cases in Norman.
The 47 new cases since last Wednesday bring Normanâs cumulative case count to 14,256.
This new case count is lower than the previous weekâs report, which showed 55 new COVID cases in Norman over the span of a week. The health department now updates its local COVID-19 dashboard and its statewide risk assessment map once a week.

The 55 new cases since last Wednesday bring Normanâs cumulative case count to 14,209.
This new case count is slightly lower than the previous weekâs report, which showed 59 new COVID cases in Norman over the span of a week. The health department now updates its local COVID-19 dashboard and its statewide risk assessment map once a week.
