Preston woman allegedly showed off pistol to police while intoxicated

PRESTON - A 26-year-old Preston woman was charged Monday with displaying a pistol to police while allegedly intoxicated. State police were called at approximately 3:57 p.m. to 168 Route 2A, Apt. 10, for a report of an active disturbance. On arrival, troopers said Brittany Stickman opened her jacket and displayed a .22-caliber handgun for which she possessed a valid permit.  Police said Stickman was “highly intoxicated” at the time. Stickman was charged with first-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace and the illegal carrying of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. She was initially held on a $2,500 bond and is due to appear in Norwich Superior Court on March 4.

Casey N. Moreo, 37, of 12 Gregory Road was charged Sunday with two counts of possession of high-capacity magazines and one count each of possession of an assault weapon, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a $200,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on March 11. Police said they had obtained a warrant for Moreo s arrest and took him into custody Sunday without incident. 

Former Norwich school board member gets probation on forgery charges

A former Norwich Board of Education member pleaded guilty this week to two counts of forgery and was given suspended sentences and probation on both cases, according to court documents. James Maloney pleaded guilty in Norwich Superior Court on Monday to a felony second-degree forgery charge in exchange for a four-year suspended sentence and two years of probation, according to the state’s judicial website. Maloney resigned his position on the Board of Education in June 2019 after being charged with forging an insurance document for a city basketball league. Maloney was arrested again in December 2019 and charged with third-degree forgery for creating fake receipts while applying for tax benefits. He was given a six-month sentence again, suspended and two years of probation after entering a guilty plea in the case on Monday.
