Norwich A man who was wanted in a fatal shooting here last year has been arrested in North Carolina and returned to Connecticut, city police said in a news release late Tuesday night.
Phillip C. Wise, 40, with a last known address of 37 Lake St., Norwich, faces a murder charge, police said.
Officers responded to a reported shooting July 21, 2020, on Lake Street, in which 39-year-old Anthony Lashawn Williams was killed. Police identified Wise as a suspect during the investigation and maintain that the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack against Williams.

Phyllisha Williams cried out for her mother, cried out for her God and wailed in pain Wednesday afternoon in the halls of Norwich Superior Court, where a man she said she treated like family was arraigned in the murder of her son.
Phillip C. Wise, 40, made his first appearance in court Wednesday since being charged in July with the murder of 39-year-old Anthony Lashawn Williams, who was shot on Lake Street last summer. Wise was extradited from North Carolina and brought to Norwich on Tuesday night, according to the Norwich Police Department.
Wise, whose last known address was in Norwich, appeared before Judge Nuala Droney virtually Wednesday and was ordered held in lieu of a $2 million bond. When he appeared on screen, Williams mother, who sat in the courtroom, cried out to the judge. She became so emotional that the judge had to call a recess just moments after the proceedings began.

Phillip Wise, 40, appeared in Norwich Superior Court to face murder charges after he was extradited from North Carolina last week.
He is accused of shooting and killing 39-year-old Anthony Williams on July 21, 2020.
Police said Wise fled Connecticut after the shooting and was arrested in North Carolina last month.
