Former Christie aide Bridget Anne Kelly, known for role in Bridgegate, running for office
Bridget Anne Kelly, a former aide to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie whose conviction in the Bridgegate scandal was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, is running for office.
Kelly announced during a television appearance Monday that she is seeking the Republican nomination for Bergen County clerk.
Kelly became well known for her role Bridgegate, when several local access lanes to the George Washington Bridge were closed over three days in September 2013. The lane closures in Fort Lee were an act of political retribution against the town’s mayor, Mark Sokolich, a Democrat who refused to endorse Christie, a Republican, for reelection.

Bridget Anne Kelly, the former top aide to ex-Gov. Chris Christie whose conviction in the Bridgegate affair was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court last year, is officially seeking to become Bergen County’s next clerk.
Kelly, 48, announced her bid Monday morning on “Good Day New York.” If she wins the Republican Party’s nomination for clerk, she will face incumbent John Hogan, a Democrat who wrested the clerk’s office away from the GOP in 2011.
Kelly told NorthJersey.com she expects that her role in the 2013 George Washington Bridge lane closures will become a campaign issue, and she is ready for that but doesn t want to be defined by her role in the episode. She authored the infamous “time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” email that set in motion the scheme, intended to punish the Fort Lee mayor for not endorsing Christie s reelection bid.
