NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Officials in Tennessee say the Texas-based Oracle Corporation plans to bring 8,500 jobs and a $1.2 billion investment to Nashville over coming years.
The office of Nashville Mayor John Cooper’s office said in disclosing details Wednesday that the project is “unrivaled” in the history of Tennessee economic development projects.
Cooper’s office also said that the computer technology company has requested a public hearing for its economic impact plan with a city development board.
Officials say the project would create 2,500 jobs in Nashville by the end of 2027, reaching a full 8,500 jobs by the end of 2031.
Nashville s local politicians maintained majority approval in Vanderbilt University s latest poll.
Respondents gave Nashville Mayor John Cooper a 57% approval rating. But, it s a drop from a Vanderbilt poll conducted last year, which showed the first-term mayor with an 80% approval rating. Mayor Cooper s support became increasingly polarized, John Geer, a director of the Vanderbilt poll, said in a press release. Republicans and independents showed far steeper drops in support for him than did Democrats.
The 40-person Metro City Council received a 63% approval rating, the Metro Nashville Public School Board a 60% approval and Congressman Jim Cooper a 65% approval. All slight drops from last year.

There hasn t been much change in the trajectory of either US Covid metric: new cases continue to increase at a modest pace, while US Covid deaths continue to fall. New cases of Covid confirmed over the week ending April 3rd were 5.9% higher that those confirmed over the week ending March 27th, and 15.9% higher than those of the week ending March 20th, while US Covid deaths during the week ending April 3rd were 12.2% lower than the prior week, and down 74.7% from the peak week in late January.
Justice Democrats jump into 2022 primaries with Tennessee House race endorsement
Justice Democrats, the progressive group that launched Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s historic 2018 campaign, made its first splash of the 2022 midterms on Monday by endorsing Nashville activist Odessa Kelly as she kicked off her Democratic primary challenge to longtime Tennessee Rep. Jim Cooper.
Kelly is the co-founder and executive director of Stand Up Nashville, a labor-aligned coalition of community groups. If she were to defeat Cooper a centrist first elected in 1982 and now in his 10th term since returning to the House in 2003 and win his seat, Kelly would become the first gay, Black woman to serve in Congress.
