The dedication of 5 generations: Bennett’s Bicycles celebrates 125 years Updated Apr 12, 2021; Facebook Share STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. So much has changed on Staten Island in the past 125 years, but one thing remains the same Bennett’s Bicycles is still helping cyclists cruise across the borough on two wheels. First opened back in 1896, the longtime staple of the Staten Island community is now owned and operated by Tommy and George Bennett, the fifth generation of the Bennett family to run the store, making it one of the oldest family-owned businesses that the borough has ever seen. Having worked in the shop since he was 18 years old, Tommy Bennett, now 62, said it has been a pleasure serving the Staten Island community for nearly five decades and building so many long-lasting relationships with his customers.

Premium Content Subscriber only A CHILDREN’S Court judge has said he fears a teenage offender is a very real risk of killing an innocent person, after hearing his history of serious driving convictions. When the 17-year-old offender appeared in the dock of Ipswich Children’s Court for sentence over an armed robbery, Judge Bernard Porter QC also expressed concerns about the boy’s record of dangerous criminal activities in cars. The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to committing an armed robbery of a boy aged 15 in Ipswich in December 2019. He was aged 16 at the time. His crime involved wielding a knife to rob a boy of his mobile phone while walking along Brisbane St in the Ipswich CBD in broad daylight.
