Kaukau 4 Keiki helping Maui families By Staff | Jul 9, 2021 A recent University of Hawaii study found that nearly half of Hawaii families with children reported struggling to pay for meals as of March 2021, with an estimated 54,700 children facing hunger. According to Feeding America and the Maui Food Bank, one of every five children is food insecure in Maui County. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and state Department of Education, Kaukau 4 Keiki was created to address the gap in food access for needy students who are unable to access the DOE’s summer Grab and Go Meals distribution sites due to lack of transportation or family/work schedule.

Thirty community leaders gathered at UH Maui College in May for the soft launch of Hulihia, which means “complete change.” The pilot project aims for Maui County to have clean energy and transportation, food security, clean and sufficient water for the future, protected ecosystems, waste reduction, sustainable tourism, green employment and a green economy.

The 2020 toy drive was sponsored by Pacific Media Group. All of the donated toys were distributed through Maui United Way’s nonprofit partner agencies and partners of the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui.

Maui United Way to benefit from ‘Fuel Up. Do Good.’ program By Staff | Dec 31, 2020 WAILUKU Maui United Way (MUW) has been selected as the upcoming beneficiary of Ohana Fuels’ ‘Fuel Up. Do Good.’ program. Ohana Fuels partners with nonprofit organizations serving the needs of the local community, and donates a portion of the proceeds from every gallon of gasoline purchased at Ohana Fuels stations in that community. During the months of January through March 2021, the proceeds from sales made at Maui Ohana Fuels locations will be donated to Maui United Way. Maui United Way is celebrating 75 years of addressing Maui’s most vital health and human service needs through its mission to empower the Maui community through caring partnerships that enrich people’s lives.
