On Thursday,1.9 billion Muslims will be celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr. For most it is a day of joy, family and community.
Unfortunately, for too many this Eid Al Fitr will be filled with mourning and sorrow; it will overflow with bitterness, anger and frustration that follows those victims of injustice in our world.
During this holy month of Ramadan, in addition to “everyday” injustices, here is some of what transpired:

On Wednesday, the Tennessee General Assembly passed a law that bans critical race theory which acknowledges that systemic racism is embedded in our American society from being taught in schools.
The law was passed as lawmakers from across the state gave their reasoning to vote in favor of the bill. Most notably, State Rep. Justin Lafferty, R-Knoxville, falsely claimed that the Three-Fifths Compromise, an 18th century law which acknowledges three-fifths of an enslaved African American as a person, was created to end slavery.
The museum made the announcement Wednesday and said it will begin the process of choosing her replacement.
Edwards was the second leader of the art museum, which first opened in April 2001. She had led the organization since 2004.
“Dr. Edwards has elevated Nashville’s museum in ways we could only imagine in our early days,” Frist Art Museum Chairman Billy Frist said in a press release. “Not only has she made the presentation of the visual arts and discourse surrounding them diverse and accessible during her time at the museum, she also changed lives and Nashville in the process.
During Edwards’ tenure, the museum was awarded accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, according to the release.

Through phone calls with friends and virtual meetings, I hear from Tennesseans in rural areas who were struggling to access health care even before the pandemic.
It’s a grim reality that many Americans have to drive hours through remote areas to find emergency medical care. If they make it in time, they find overcrowded facilities filled with the COVID-19 patients urban hospitals are funneling into rural areas.
