As early as November 2020, PS5 owners were reporting major drifting issues with their DualSense controllers. For one player, it took just ten days for them to notice major stick drift on the DualSense that rendered the controller unusable. Now, a class-action lawsuit has been filed in the United States alleging the controllers are actually ‘defective’.

This case was effectively sparked by law firm Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith (CSK&D). In the case files viewed by SlashGear, it’s suggested that “the DualSense Controller is defective,” and that “this defect significantly interferes with gameplay and thus compromises the DualSense Controller’s core functionality.” Per the suit filed on February 12, 2021, “Sony is-and at all relevant times has been-aware of the Drift Defect through online consumer complaints, complaints made by consumers directly to it, and through its own pre-release testing.”

EU group calls for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con drift investigation

Photo by James Bareham / The Verge The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) is calling on the European Commission to investigate Nintendo Joy-Con drift complaints. The BEUC group represents more than 40 consumer organizations across the European Union, and the umbrella organization says it has received nearly 25,000 complaints from consumers across Europe about faulty Joy-Con controllers. “According to consumer testimonies, in 88 percent of cases, the game controllers broke within the first two years of use,” says the BEUC (via Eurogamer). The group has now submitted a complaint to the European Commission claiming Nintendo is involved in premature obsolescence and “misleading omissions of key consumer information.”
