Thea Caldbeck-Moore and Wendy Hora have been together for 40 years.
Ms Hora is now her partner s carer, as Ms Caldbeck-Moore waits in line to be approved for a home care package.
“I would love it to materialise tomorrow because we ve needed this package way back in August when Thea first had her brain injury,” Ms Hora told SBS News.
“The tumour has upset her executive function, so she doesn’t cope very well with day-to-day tasks.”

While the pair are hopeful about the budget commitment to more home care packages, they re also cynical.

Earlier this week, Scott Morrison warned international borders will remain closed indefinitely if it means protecting Australians from deadly outbreaks of mutant Covid-19 strains from overseas.

The bleak picture for universities could worsen after the 2021 Budget suggested international borders won t reopen until mid-2022.
Before the pandemic, international education was Australia’s third-largest export industry, worth about A$40 billion a year to the wider economy.
“Governments across all jurisdictions need to come together with universities to develop a robust plan for the safe return of international students,” Universities Australia’s Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said in a press release.
“The plan would mean the careful quarantine of students from low-risk countries.”

The Australian Government continues to dampen expectations about re-opening its international borders and allowing its citizens to begin traveling again. On Tuesday, May 11, the Australian Government handed down its annual budget. In his remarks, the Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg tempered expectations of any significant international travel resuming before mid-2022.

“With respect to international borders, it’s quite a conservative, cautious assumption that international borders will gradually reopen from the middle of next year,” said the Treasurer.
Josh Frydenberg said, as a result, international airline and passenger traffic would stay low until then, with improvements in numbers expected from mid-2022. The Treasurer also defended the now 14-month long international border closure.

Qantas boss Alan Joyce has conceded the airline may not be able to restart international flights again by October as he had hoped but warned Australia risks becoming a “hermit state” if its borders remain shut for too long.
“We know that date [when international travel will restart] may change,” Mr Joyce said at Adelaide Airport on Friday. “We’re completely flexible on this.”
The comments come after Tourism Minister Dan Tehan and Finance Minister Simon Birmingham predicted this week that the government would not open the international border until well into 2022, despite Qantas’ efforts to restart most of its international operations by the end of October.
