HACKENSACK, Minn. A Hackensack, Minn., man died at 5:52 p.m., Friday, May 7, after his truck crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming vehicle on Highway 210 in Cass County.
According to Minnesota State Patrol reports, Scott William Voudren, 48, of Hackensack was operating a 1997 GMC Sierra traveling south on Highway 371 late Friday afternoon when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2020 Honda CRV operated by Diane Marie Illies, 60, of Solway, Minn. The crash occurred at Woodland Drive in Birch Lake Township.
Voudren suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Illies was taken from the scene to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Conditions were dry and both drivers were wearing seat belts.

BACKUS A 42-year-old Frazee woman was seriously injured Saturday, May 1, when the dirt bike she was operating crashed in the Foothills State Forest, Spider Lake Recreation Area in rural Backus.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was called at 12:11 p.m. to the crash involving an off-highway motorcycle. Deputies and responders arrived on scene and learned the dirt bike struck rocks in the trail causing the machine to crash and the operator fell from the machine onto the rocks. The woman was treated at the scene with serious injuries and transported to a Fargo, North Dakota, hospital.
Authorities rescue 3 young kayakers
Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch stated in the news release that the water temperature was 45 degrees and the safe outcome of this incident was the use of life jackets by all three juveniles.

WALKER The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was called Saturday, May 1, to a water rescue involving three juvenile kayakers on Leech Lake in Walker.
The 911 call came in at 4:58 p.m. and kayakers were on Leech Lake, west of Minnesota Island and were caught in the wind and taking on water, with one juvenile being in the water. Winds were gusting up to 23 mph, according to the weather data at the Walker Municipal Airport. Deputies responded and located the three female kayakers, who were unable to paddle their partially submerged kayaks that had taken on water. One of the girls was in the water for several minutes, the sheriff’s office reported.
Wise Road motorcycle crash critically injures man
According to the sheriff’s office, a group of five motorcyclists was traveling westbound on Wise Road when the first two in the group attempted to pass a truck hauling a trailer.

A crash involving multiple motorcycles Sunday, May 2, on Wise Road left an East Gull Lake man critically injured.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the crash at 3:41 p.m. Sunday and temporarily closed the road north of Brainerd to allow for emergency response.
