John Grubb was something of a celebrity when he left HCMC on Monday crowds gathered for pictures at his bedside and nurses hugged the St. Michael, Minn., man and said goodbye.
When severe COVID-19 leaves you on a heart-lung bypass machine for 81 days, and you make it out of the hospital alive, you tend to get noticed. That s the longest we ve had a survivor on veno-venous ECMO so far, said Dr. Matthew Prekker, a medical director of HCMC s ECMO program, who treated Grubb. He s had the longest duration of support and fortunately is going to be a survivor.

MINNEAPOLIS When COVID-19 stats are compiled, they can t account for the gravity of a loss like Robb Malone.
“It s just really overwhelming, the idea that this could happen to somebody like him,” Tom Wolfe said.
Wolfe coached youth sports with Malone, as many others did, in and around Robbinsdale.
“It wasn t limited to football, hockey, basketball and baseball, and probably soccer, he had boundless energy, and that s why I m still kind of in denial that we re here,” Maurice Chenier, another of Malone’s coaching friends said.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal apprehension is investigating after a Brooklyn Center police officer fatally shot a driver during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.
According to the Brooklyn Center Police Department, officers pulled a car over for a traffic violation just before 2 p.m. near 63rd Avenue North and Orchard Avenue in Brooklyn Center.
Police say the officers determined the driver had an outstanding warrant, and the driver tried to get back in the vehicle while they were trying to make an arrest.
At that point, an officer then shot the driver, and the car kept driving for several blocks before crashing into another vehicle.
