Darby McNamara was well-known in the community. He was an avid athlete, a talented artist and had an excellent sense of humor. It was his dream to go to culinary school and become a chef, having worked in the Steamboat Springs restaurant scene for a number of years. But on July 4, 2010, at age 21, he took his own life. In school, he had been labeled a “problem child” and a behavioral issue. He became addicted to drugs and alcohol in middle school, and he was diagnosed with ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. There hadn’t really been talk of depression, which his older sister Meghan McNamara said seemed to exacerbate most of his issues, which she said started in childhood.

Preliminary hearing set for Craig woman charged with multiple counts of felony child abuse

Kaylee Ann Messerly A Craig woman requested a preliminary hearing in a case charging her with two counts of felony child abuse and waved her right to a 35-day limit Wednesday afternoon in Moffat County District Court. Kaylee Ann Messerly, 36, previously requested a preliminary hearing during her April 15 arraignment hearing, stating at the time she would be representing herself. Wednesday, Attorney Frank Moya appeared virtually representing Messerly, joining her in requesting a preliminary hearing and waving her right to a 35-day limit on a hearing. In addition to her request for a preliminary hearing, Messerly also requested that the courtroom be closed to the media, citing her 13-year-old son following the case through the news.

Craig woman faces up to 40 years in prison following death of infant daughter

A Craig woman, who is representing herself in court, faces up to 40 years in prison on two felony charges following the death of her infant daughter. Kaylee Ann Messerly, 36, appeared via telephone in Moffat County Court Thursday morning in front of Judge Brittany Schneider, and was granted a two-week continuance in her case as she awaits possible admittance into an inpatient rehabilitation facility on the Front Range. Kaylee Ann Messerly Messerly was arrested on Friday, April 9 on two felony warrants following the death of her 18-month old daughter in early March following a search for Messerly and her two young children March 11 in the unincorporated area of Moffat County near County Road 54.
