COMPLETE STALEMATE IN GHANA S NEW PARLIAMENT

COMPLETE STALEMATE IN GHANA’S NEW PARLIAMENT January 6, 2021 I know that the results of some constituencies are in dispute. But for now, according to EC declaration,NDC has 137 seats and NPP has 137 seats in the 8 th Parliament of the Fourth Republic. This is a complete legislative stalemate! It has never happened before in the political history of Ghana. Strangely our prophets and seers have been overtaken by circumstances beyond their control. They did not see it coming and neveralerted us about it and left us in the dark. What went wrong? Some call this stalemate a “hung parliament.” No, this is more than a hung parliament. We know that hung Parliaments have no clear cut majority but have precedents we can refer to; not this strange political phenomenon we now have. It has no identity or name. Our political scientists should quickly coin a name for it.

COMMENT | Who do we blame for political mess we re in?

COMMENT | Who do we blame for political mess we re in? A - COMMENT | Let me state my position clearly. This article is not written in favour of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim or to oppose him. I’m just trying to be rational. Is this the end of the road for Anwar, as some suggest? Has he reached the end of his political career, as others claim? I don’t think so. But some politicians seem to believe so while others are busy whipping up sentiments of hatred to get rid of Anwar for selfish reasons. Some have even been arguing that he had lost the confidence of the opposition. How so? Was he defeated in a majority contest? There has been no such contest to confirm their claim.

Will you admit Fomena MP in Parliament today? Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu says no comment – Ghana Visions

+ The Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has decided to abstain from commenting on whether or not Mr Andrew Amoako Asiamah, would be entertained in Parliament for him to continue his work as the Member of Parliament for Fomena as the House reconvenes Monday, December 14, 2020. Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s explanation is that, “it was a directive given by the Speaker [of Parliament].” to expel Mr Amoako Asiamah from the House. In addition to that, he says the Minority side, and specifically the Minority Leader, Mr Haruna Iddrisu on the day the Speaker gave the directive said he disagreed with the Speaker.
