Total0 China’s first specialized legislation for the protection of personal information has made new progress. On April 26, the second review draft of the Personal Information Protection Law (Draft) was submitted to the 28th meeting of the 13th National People’s Congress for deliberation. The draft clearly strengthened the supervision of large Internet platforms, including requiring the establishment of an independent organization mainly composed of external members to supervise personal information processing activities. Some industry observers worry that the supervision activities of external members may collide with the company’s trade secrets. In order to prevent external supervision from becoming a mere formality, the corresponding supporting regulations need to be improved.

The law, passed at a session of the Standing Committee of the National People s Congress, took effective immediately. Catering service providers face a fine of up to 10,000 yuan ($1,543) if they mislead consumers to order excessive quantities of food and cause waste, according to the law.

Source: China State Council Information Office 2 Chinese lawmakers on Thursday voted to pass an amendment to the Maritime Traffic Safety Law, stressing the importance of marine epidemic control. The captain of the vessel shall be responsible for implementing emergency response measures once a crew member on board is found to have or is suspected of having infectious disease that may pose serious health threat to others, says the law revision adopted at a session of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, which opened Monday. The revised law stipulates that relevant personnel shall be put under quarantine, if necessary, along with timely reporting of the situation to authorities.
