Scopa gives Eskom deadline to finalise Andre de Ruyter racism probe The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) has halted its own investigation into accusations of racism against Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter Parliament’s watchdog, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) is taking a tough approach towards Eskom, particularly as it investigates allegations of racism levelled against the utility’s CEO Andre de Ruyter. Scopa has given the utility a total of 90 days to conclude the probe and with the clock ticking, there are about two months left before the deadline lapses. In light of the Eskom investigation, Scopa has opted to pump the brakes on its own probe.

Scopa halts inquiry into allegations made against Eskom CEO By Mayibongwe Maqhina Share Cape Town - The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) has halted its inquiry into allegations made against Eskom CEO André de Ruyter. This comes after the power utility appointed advocate Ishmael Semenya, SC, to probe allegations of racism and abuse against De Ruyter last week. Last month, Scopa had stopped its meeting over the annual report of Eskom after it received allegations from chief procurement officer Solly Tshitangano. It emerged that Tshitangano, who was suspended as the entity was accounting to the watchdog body on its finance and expected to make an appearance, had lodged a complaint with board chairperson Malegapuru Makgoba.

Numsa says the absence of recent financial statements is blocking members at SAA subsidiaries Airchefs and SAAT from receiving benefits.  Minister of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan previously told the oversight committee the Auditor-General said he could not conduct an audit while SAA was in business rescue. One of SAA s largest unions says it will be writing to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) to do more to hold the department of public enterprises accountable for embattled state-owned airline SAA s failure to produce financial statements.
