The Warming Centre at the former Ontario Provincial Police building on Chippewa Street remains closed.
The facility was scheduled to open Tuesday, but “there were some unexpected (construction) delays,” confirms Carla Ammerata, a spokesperson for Nipissing Mental Health Housing and Support Services.

Ammerata says a temporary warming centre has been set up in the former People for Equal Partnership (PEP) building at 351 Ferguson St.
“With it being so cold out, we’ve ensured vulnerable people have a place to go,” she says.

The long awaited warming centre at North Bay’s low barrier shelter will be open to guests starting tomorrow.
The Nugget toured the facility Monday morning with Coun. Mark King, chairman of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board.

Guests will be welcomed into the centre, located in the basement of the former Ontario Provincial Police building on Chippewa Street, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Sixteen transitional beds will be located in the upstairs of the OPP building. However, when they will open remains unknown at this time.
