Mr Seth Acheampong, the Minister-Designate for Eastern Region, on Monday lauded measures of the Akufo-Addo Government to revive defunct factories and promised to give impetus to the industrialization drive of that Region.
From presence of numerous water bodies, beautiful land scenery and mountain scarps, fruit and cash crops, clinker and tourism sites, the Minister Designate listed the investment potentials of the Region and declared: “Every potential business in the Eastern Region is a priority”.
Aside the rich human capital present in the Region, the Eastern Region is the region that is closest to the capital and the port city of Tema, which all make it a preferred investment destination among the regions of Ghana.
The Appointments Committee of Parliament has failed to approve the appointments of ministers-designate for Food and Agriculture, Information and Fisheries – Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and Hawa Koomson – respectively.
Trade and Industry Minister-designate, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, on Friday, announced, that the Free Zones Enclave in Kumasi would be turned into Ghana’s second industrial city, after Tema.
Mr Kyerematen said a public-private partnership was advancing towards developing the land acquired by the Government at Ejisu for activities in the industrial city because of the strategic location of the Ashanti Region.
He described the Region “as being linked to several other geographical regions of Ghana” and being a transit corridor to the Sahelian countries of West Africa.
The renominated Minister for the portfolio, who is a lawyer, an entrepreneur, diplomat, and management consultant, said this as his veting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, at the Parliament House, in Osu-Accra.
Mr Francis Asenso Boakye, the Minister-designate for Works and Housing, has commended the Saglemi Housing Project, describing it as a laudable initiative to decongest the capital city, Accra.
He has thus hinted of engaging stakeholders on best financing options to complete the project which has been abandoned since the NPP government assumed power in 2017.
The Bantama MP said he has received briefing on the project and was determined to ensure its completion for the benefit of Ghanaians.
Mr Boakye who made this pledge when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament in Accra on Wednesday said whatever issues may surround the project, the taxpayer’s money should not be allowed to go waste.
