“In the last few days, we have started to see case counts bump back up a little bit,” said Dr. Joe McLaughlin, an epidemiologist with the state. “So I just want to really encourage people to continue to remain vigilant.”

There s something about living in a small town, whether it be the sense of community, lack of crowded spaces, more options for outdoor fun, low crime, or just a less hectic daily pace. Now, perhaps more than ever, families are embracing the idea of small-town life, moving out of bigger cities as they look for a quieter, slower, and perhaps safer place to raise their children.
During the first six months of the coronavirus pandemic, there seemed to be a mass exodus from urban areas to more rural communities. Some families moved to be closer to relatives, some moved for jobs (or because they were now working remotely and didn t need to live in the city), and some simply wanted to be where there were fewer people. Kodiak reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the boroughâs active case count to 62. Two people are currently hospitalized.Â
Over the past seven days, there have been 32 new cases, according to numbers tracking the test dates of positive cases on the Kodiak COVID Dashboard. The highest single day in that time period was Jan. 4, when 13 people tested positive.Â
Three of the new cases were tested on Wednesday. The other two were from Monday and Tuesday.. Two were travel related, two were close contacts of previous cases and one was classified as community spread. The new cases bring the boroughâs total case count to 951 since the start of the pandemic.Â
