When Hayden Kerin finishes his work for the day, he can literally watch his success soar.
The Fairhope High School senior spends half of each school day tinkering with instrumentation and learning about aircraft systems. A good day in the classroom means a great day on the tarmac.
“I was always interested in airplanes. I thought it would be interesting and fun,” he said of the classes. “When we see something we do flying, it’s very rewarding,” Kerin said.
Kerin is one of 31 students who have committed to spending half a day in high school and half in college courses through Baldwin County School’s Fairhope Academy program at the Fairhope Airport. Launched in 2015, the partnership with Coastal Alabama Community College allows Baldwin County high school students to complete the majority of classes needed to earn an associate in applied science degree in airframe technology.

Among those is Centegix, which offers a solution known as CrisisAlert that leverages Zigbee and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technologies. The CrisisAlert badge is designed to enable teachers and staff members to silently identify an emergency and then be located automatically. The solution is already in use at 1,200 facilities throughout 13 states, including schools, hospitals, hotels and government facilities. Thus far, the company reports, the system has been used to protect approximately 1.1 million people.

Beloved father, husband, teacher and man of service, Frank Joseph Trione died February 16, 2021 at the age of 68. He is preceded in death by his parents Joby and Gladys Trione. He is survived by his wife Margaret and daughter Margaret Frances; brother Ben Trione; sisters Anne Trione (Wende) , Sara Trione and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Frank’s love of Daphne and Christ the King Church began with learning his family’s history in building both. His childhood, as well as his graduating from CKS, brought him many lifelong friends. Later in life, he served on the Christ the King Parish Council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a man of faith and charity with a dedication to serving his community. He served as Daphne City Councilman and was on the Daphne Utility Board from 1980 – 1986. Frank was always a part of any Daphne celebration or charitable event. Ricky Trione, Frank’s cousin, knew him as simply, “favorite cousin”.
“He lit up a room. He loved everyone,” Ricky said. “We grew up playing together and I’ve always loved him.”
Frank died from COVID-19 on Tuesday at the age of 68. Of course, he leaves behind loving family members, including his wife of more than 40 years and a daughter who works as a pharmacist. He also leaves behind the Baldwin County community as a descendent of the founding family of Daphne.
