NEWTON, MA People older than 65 could receive the COVID-19 vaccine as early as February, but the general public in Newton likely won t receive the vaccine until April under the state s three-phase distribution plan. In the coming months, the vaccine will be available to all of us, said Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller in a statement. We can almost see the end. We just need to hang in there together.
Local health departments have been inundated with calls about it, including in Newton. But officials are just referring residents to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health plan that came out earlier this month.
Newton fitness centers to close for three weeks

City of Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller announced that Newton fitness centers will be closed for three weeks, beginning Dec. 18.
City leaders said they made their announcement based on limiting spread in high-contact areas, yet there is zero evidence that fitness centers are a significant source of COVID-19 spread.
Massachusetts is home to 75 Planet Fitness facilities which have no evidence of cases being contracted at the gym. Through more than 3 million check-ins since reopening in the state, Planet Fitness has had only .001125% of check-ins who later tested positive, with zero evidence these cases originated in the gyms; that is 1.1 positive cases per every 100,000 check-ins.
