KUALA LUMPUR: Local and foreign domestic helpers are set to benefit from the government’s expansion of social security protection, with approximately 100,000 workers in this segment slated to be covered.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, who announced this, said the Cabinet has approved the proposal to expand the social security coverage to domestic helpers under the Employees Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) and Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800).
“The government hopes to enforce this expansion through these regulations that is expected to be implemented on June 1, ” he told reporters before the start of the 2021 Socso Buka Puasa event here yesterday.

The Joint Standing Committee on Migration will hold a series of public hearings in Melbourne, Albury and Shepparton from 21–23 April 2021.
The Committee has planned a busy program of public hearings and site inspections to investigate in more depth the challenges facing businesses and organisations who need to find and hire skilled migrants to fill job vacancies.
“The Committee is looking forward to hearing from groups such as EY and CEDA who have considered this issue in detail, as well as exploring the practical difficulties faced by Australian business owners who have experienced navigating the skilled migration program,” Mr Leeser said.

Travellers entering Singapore from India will serve a total of 21 days of Stay-Home Notice (SHN).
Travellers entering Singapore from Hong Kong will undergo a reduced SHN period of seven days.
For those travelling out of Singapore on essential business and official travels, a 21-day SHN period will apply - this is only for fully-vaccinated individuals who travel to higher-risk countries/regions.
Travellers who are not fully-vaccinated will continue to be subjected to prevailing border measures upon their return.
Travellers who have history of being in the UK and South Africa within the last 14 days will now be allowed entry into Singapore, subject to a total of 21-day SHN.
